Barnsley Shutters

Urban Shutters

Urban shutters bring a fresh, modern twist to the classic plantation shutter look.

Urban shutters bring a fresh, modern twist to the classic plantation shutter look. With their sleek lines, minimal framing, and contemporary finish, they suit today’s homes perfectly. Whether you live in a new-build apartment or a refurbished Victorian terrace, urban shutters add a touch of sophistication that never goes out of style.

At Perfect Blinds UK, we’ve installed urban shutters in hundreds of homes across Yorkshire. These made-to-measure interior shutters are expertly crafted from high-quality PVC, offering a durable and stylish solution for your windows. This option is our entry-level shutter range and is available in one specific waterproof PVC finish. They look stunning, they work brilliantly, and they last for years.

Urban shutters work beautifully in living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and especially bathrooms, thanks to their waterproof material. They give you complete control over light and privacy while adding real kerb appeal to your property. Once fitted, they become a permanent feature that can add value to your home.

Why Choose Urban Shutters?

Timeless Style

Shutters never date. While blinds and curtains come and go with trends, urban shutters look just as good in ten years as they do today. They are an investment that keeps paying off.

Brilliant Light Control

Tilt the louvres to let in exactly the amount of light you want. Angle them upwards for bright daylight, downwards for softer light, or close them completely for privacy and darkness. You are always in control.

Privacy Without Darkness

Adjust the louvres to block the view from outside while still allowing natural light to flood in. No more choosing between being on display or sitting in the dark.

Easy to Clean

A quick wipe with a damp cloth is all urban shutters need. No dust-trapping fabrics, no fiddly slats, no machine washing. They stay looking fresh with minimal effort.

Built to Last

Quality shutters are solid and durable. They do not fray, fade, or fall apart. Properly fitted urban shutters will outlast most other window treatments by years.

Adds Value to Your Home

Because they are fitted and made to measure, shutters are often seen as a permanent home improvement rather than a temporary window covering.

Things Worth Knowing

Material & Colours

Urban shutters are made from waterproof PVC, making them ideal for bathrooms and kitchens.

They are available in two colour options:

  • Cotton White – designed to match most standard uPVC window frames
  • Ice White – a brighter, crisper white for a more enhanced, contemporary look

We’ll help you choose the shade that works best with your windows and décor.

Louvre Sizes

We offer urban shutters with different louvre widths. Larger louvres create a more contemporary feel and allow more light in when open. Smaller louvres offer a slightly more traditional appearance. We’ll guide you towards the right choice for your windows and style.

Mounting Options

  • L Frame Model – fitted inside the window recess for a flush, built-in look. Panels fold back to 90 degrees.
  • Z Frame Model – fitted outside the recess, allowing panels to open up to 180 degrees so you can enjoy a full, unobstructed view without shutters protruding into the room.

We assess your windows and recommend the best solution for your space.

    PRECISION SHUTTERS FOR MODERN DOORS

Measured to fit perfectly. Installed securely. Designed for lasting privacy and clean lines.

What's the difference between shutters and blinds?

Shutters are fixed to your window frame and become part of your home, while blinds hang inside or outside the window recess. Shutters are more permanent and add value to your property, whereas blinds are easier to swap out if you fancy a change. Shutters tend to last longer – we’re talking decades rather than years – and they’re generally better at insulating your windows. That said, they’re more of an investment upfront, while blinds are usually cheaper to get started with.

Proper quality shutters should last 20 years or more, easy. We’ve seen plantation shutters that are still going strong after 30 years. The uPVC ones are even tougher in some ways because they don’t warp or fade like wood can if it’s not looked after. As long as you don’t go swinging on them or slamming them about, they’ll outlast most other window coverings by a mile. It’s one of the reasons they’re such good value—you pay once and forget about them for decades.

Not at all—they’re actually one of the easiest window coverings to keep clean. Just give them a quick wipe with a damp cloth every now and then, and they’re sorted. For wooden shutters, you might want to use a bit of wood polish once in a blue moon to keep them looking their best. The uPVC ones need even less—just a wipe down with soapy water when they get a bit grubby. No complicated cleaning, no taking them down to wash them, no faffing about with specialist products.

Absolutely. Shutters create an extra barrier between your room and the window, which helps keep heat in during winter and out during summer. They’re particularly good at reducing heat loss through your windows at night when you close them up. You won’t see a massive drop in your bills overnight, but over time it does add up. Plus, they help keep rooms cooler in summer without running fans or air conditioning, which saves you a few quid there too.
