Warranty & Aftercare
When you buy blinds from Barnsley Shutters you’re investing in quality that lasts.
Our Warranty Promise
When you buy blinds from Barnsley Shutters you’re investing in quality that lasts. We stand behind every product we sell and every installation we do. If something goes wrong that shouldn’t have, we’ll put it right.
No quibbling. No excuses. Just proper service from a local company that cares about its reputation.
What’s Covered
Standard Warranty Coverage
Our 2-Year Peace of Mind Warranty includes:
Manufacturing defects — If there’s a fault with how the blind was made (faulty mechanisms, defective fabrics, poor construction), we’ll repair or replace it.
Installation issues — If something’s not fitted properly and it’s affecting how the blind works, we’ll come back and sort it out.
Component failures — If parts like brackets, chains, or mechanisms fail under normal use, we’ll replace them.
Fabric faults — If fabrics fade excessively, tear, or develop faults that shouldn’t happen with normal use, we’ll replace them.
Motorised systems — Motors and electronic components are covered for manufacturing defects and failures under normal use.
What’s Not Covered
Let’s be honest about what warranty doesn’t cover:
Normal wear and tear — Blinds are used daily. Some gradual fading, slight fabric wear, or minor cosmetic changes over time are normal and expected.
Accidental damage — If you, your kids, your pets, or your guests damage the blinds, that’s not a warranty issue. (Though we can usually repair them for a reasonable fee.)
Misuse or neglect — Using blinds in ways they’re not designed for, or not following basic care instructions.
Alterations or repairs by others — If someone else has had a go at fixing or modifying the blinds, we can’t warranty that.
Force majeure — Damage from extreme weather, floods, fires, or other events beyond anyone’s control.
Removal and reinstallation — If you move house and want your blinds refitted elsewhere, that’s not covered (but we can do it for a fee).
Commercial use — Our warranty covers domestic use. If you’re using residential-grade blinds in a commercial property with heavy traffic, wear will be faster.
Inappropriate cleaning — Using harsh chemicals or cleaning methods we’ve advised against.
Extended Warranty Options
Some of our premium products come with extended manufacturer warranties:
Velux blinds — Covered by Velux’s manufacturer warranty (terms vary by product)
Somfy motors — 5-year manufacturer warranty on selected motor systems
Louvolite Perfect Fit systems — Extended manufacturer warranty available
Premium shutters — Up to 10 years on selected shutter ranges
We’ll always tell you if a product has extended warranty coverage when you’re ordering.
How to Make a Warranty Claim
If something’s not right, don’t suffer in silence. Here’s what to do:
Step 1: Get in Touch
Call us: 01226 812 122 or 0800 488 0841
Email us: info@barnsleyshutters.co.uk
Tell us:
- What the problem is
- When the blinds were fitted
- Which room or window it affects
- Whether it’s been getting worse or happened suddenly
Step 2: We’ll Assess the Issue
We’ll usually be able to diagnose the problem over the phone. Sometimes we might ask for:
- Photos of the issue
- A video showing how the blind’s operating
- Your original order details (we’ll have these on file anyway)
Step 3: We’ll Arrange a Solution
Depending on the issue, we’ll either:
- Talk you through a fix — Many issues are simple to resolve over the phone
- Post replacement parts — With clear instructions for fitting
- Arrange a visit — We’ll come out and sort it properly
Step 4: We’ll Put It Right
If we need to visit, we’ll:
- Arrange a convenient time
- Assess the problem in person
- Repair or replace on the spot where possible
- Order parts if needed and return to complete the work
Timeframes:
- We aim to respond to warranty claims within 24 hours
- Simple fixes happen immediately
- Part orders typically take 5-10 working days
- We’ll always keep you updated
What We Need From You
To keep your warranty valid:
Use your blinds normally — They’re designed for daily use in a domestic setting. Treat them reasonably.
Follow care instructions — We’ll give you guidance when we fit them. Basic stuff like not yanking cords or forcing mechanisms.
Report problems promptly — Don’t let a small issue turn into a bigger one. Let us know as soon as something’s not right.
Keep your home reasonably maintained — Excessive damp, condensation, or humidity can affect blinds. This isn’t a warranty issue, but we can advise on solutions.
Let us fix warranty issues — If something’s covered under warranty, let us deal with it rather than attempting repairs yourself.
Aftercare & Maintenance
Looking after your blinds is straightforward. Here’s how to keep them looking good and working smoothly for years.
Regular Cleaning
Roller, Vertical, and Day & Night Blinds (Fabric)
Light dusting (weekly):
- Use a soft microfibre cloth or feather duster
- Wipe gently from top to bottom
- Don’t press too hard on the fabric
Deeper cleaning (monthly):
- Use your vacuum’s soft brush attachment on low suction
- Work from top to bottom in straight lines
- For stubborn marks, use a barely-damp cloth with mild soap
- Never use bleach, harsh chemicals, or abrasive cleaners
Stain removal:
- Blot (don’t rub) immediately with a clean, dry cloth
- For water-based stains, use a slightly damp cloth with mild detergent
- Test on an inconspicuous area first
- Let dry completely before operating the blind
Venetian Blinds (Wood, Faux Wood, Aluminium)
Weekly cleaning:
- Close the slats and dust with a microfibre cloth
- Flip to dust the other side
- Or use a vacuum with soft brush attachment
Monthly cleaning:
- Wipe each slat with a barely-damp cloth
- For wooden blinds, avoid excessive water
- Dry immediately with a clean cloth
- For stubborn dirt on aluminium or faux wood, use diluted washing-up liquid
What not to do:
- Don’t submerge wooden Venetians in water
- Don’t use furniture polish or wax
- Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasives
Roman Blinds
Regular maintenance:
- Vacuum gently on low suction with soft brush attachment
- Spot-clean marks carefully with damp cloth
- Some Roman blinds can be professionally dry-cleaned (check with us first)
Pleated Blinds
Gentle care:
- Dust regularly with a soft brush or cloth
- Vacuum very gently if needed
- Avoid getting pleated fabrics wet where possible
- Never iron or press pleats
Shutters
Easy maintenance:
- Wipe louvres with a dry or slightly damp cloth
- Use diluted washing-up liquid for marks
- Dry thoroughly
- Occasionally wipe hinges clean
- Check tightness of screws annually
Motorised Blinds
Keep mechanisms clean:
- Dust around motors and mechanisms
- Keep battery covers clean and accessible
- Check batteries annually (for battery-powered systems)
- Don’t let children play with remotes
Operational Care
Do:
- Operate blinds smoothly and gently
- Use cleats and safety devices properly
- Keep cords and chains tidy
- Adjust gently — don’t force anything
- Open and close blinds fully rather than leaving them half-open for extended periods
Don’t:
- Yank or pull cords roughly
- Force blinds that are stuck (call us instead)
- Let cords twist into knots
- Allow pets to play with cords or slats
- Leave blinds in wet conditions (like open windows in rain)
- Touch fabrics with dirty or greasy hands
Seasonal Care
Spring/Summer:
- Check for any winter damage
- Clean thoroughly at start of season
- Ensure vents and air flow are good to prevent moisture buildup
Autumn/Winter:
- Clean before heating season starts
- Check seals around window frames
- Manage condensation to protect blinds
- Ensure motorised systems have fresh batteries
Common Issues & Quick Fixes
Problem: Blind won’t raise/lower smoothly
Possible causes:
- Cord tangled or twisted
- Mechanism needs lubricating
- Fabric caught or misaligned
What to try:
- Check cord isn’t tangled
- Raise and lower slowly a few times
- If still stuck, call us — don’t force it
Problem: Slats won’t tilt properly (Venetian blinds)
Possible causes:
- Cord tension issue
- Tilter mechanism needs attention
- Slats caught or damaged
What to try:
- Check all slats are free to move
- Try tilting very slowly
- If mechanism feels wrong, call us
Problem: Fabric looking uneven or creased
Possible causes:
- Left in one position too long
- Moisture or humidity
- Fabric needs settling
What to try:
- Open and close fully several times
- Leave in different position
- Most fabrics settle with time
- Never iron or steam
Problem: Chain/cord stuck or jamming
Possible causes:
- Cord twisted inside mechanism
- Chain-break connector separated
- Mechanism issue
What to try:
- Check chain-break connector is clicked together
- Ensure cord isn’t wrapped around anything
- If inside mechanism is jammed, call us
Problem: Motorised blind not responding
Possible causes:
- Flat batteries (battery-powered systems)
- Remote needs re-pairing
- Motor issue
What to try:
- Replace batteries (remote and blind if battery-powered)
- Re-pair remote to blind (check instructions)
- Check nothing’s blocking the blind’s movement
- If still not working, call us
Problem: Excessive condensation on blinds
Possible causes:
- High humidity in room
- Poor ventilation
- Single-glazed windows
What to try:
- Improve ventilation (open windows, use extractor fans)
- Use dehumidifier in damp rooms
- Wipe down blinds regularly
- Consider upgrading windows if possible
Note: This isn’t a warranty issue, but we can advise on blind types that cope better with moisture.
When to Call Us
Some things are normal. Some aren’t. Call us if:
✗ Mechanisms are making strange noises
✗ Fabric is tearing or coming loose
✗ Brackets are coming away from the wall
✗ Cords are fraying or breaking
✗ Motors aren’t working after battery changes
✗ Anything’s not operating as it should
✗ You’re not sure if something’s normal
Don’t wait for small problems to become big ones. We’d rather pop out and check something minor than have you struggling with a blind that doesn’t work properly.

Even after your warranty expires, we’re still here to help.
We offer:
- Repairs at reasonable rates
- Replacement parts at fair prices
- Re-fitting services if you’ve moved house

- Honest advice about whether repair or replacement makes more sense
Typical costs:
- Call-out and assessment: £[X] (waived if you proceed with repair)
- Labour: £[X] per hour
